Chew on that

"And then, t-t-then, I made a noise like this: hua-hua-hua-huaaaaaaa!" - Chunk, The Goonies

Well, bust out the Godiva box because today is National Truffles Day. And I'm not referring to the ones that look like slimy little fungi...(ugh, mushrooms!) These truffles are of the chocolate variety.
So okay, if you're like me, you associate boxes of chocolate with either Valentines Day, the weepy days following a bad break-up or Forrest Gump. But since I was able to pass by that fabulous looking confectionary shop yesterday WITHOUT stopping in for a sampling, I figure I'm due for a little "something something" - in this case, sucralose-sweetened, low-carb chocolate truffles! Can I get a "Woo hoo?!" No?
Alrighty then.
Long story short, truffles are typically made with a chocolate ganache center coated in chocolate or cocoa powder. Other fillings include cream, caramel, nuts, almonds, berries, fudge, nougat and liquor, to name a few.
Since I'm stuck house/dog-sitting for a friend this weekend, I plan on whipping up a batch of these babies and noshing in style. Thanks to RecipeZaar for the tasty looking recipe.

Low Carb Chocolate Truffles

Also, I found this fun little test, designed to determine if you're a true "chocoholic." I think I already know my answer. What will your response be?

Finally, because it's Friday, I thought I'd add a clip from The Goonies, one of the greatest movies of the 80s. At least I thought so back when I was young. Remember Chunk and his "truffle shuffle" dance? Well, I'm not attaching that clip, because it can be a wee bit offensive, but I am including his hilarious confession to the Fratelli family. Enjoy and have a great weekend!

Sugar-free Girl Scout Cookies!!!

Wow. And today isn't even my birthday!
Sweet news for all you calorie counters out there. It appears the rumor I heard was true. A sugar-free Girl Scout cookie has indeed been added to the mix this year.
That means I don't have to feel so bad for breaking my New Year's "healthy eating" resolutions. I have to support the (Girl Scout) troops, don't I?!
Everybody's favorite group of cookie sellers is expected to start making the rounds again, tempting us with boxes of Samoas (my personal fave), Tagalongs and Thin Mints.
I'll now have to add Sugar-Free Chocolate Chips to my cookie lineup. According to the Girl Scout Web site, the sucralose-sweetened cookies do feature real chocolate.
Another new offering I might have to try out? Lemon Chalet Cremes, a citrus-flavored sandwich cookie with a hint of ginger and cinnamon. Can't wait!

I'd come up with a catchier headline...but I'm too busy drooling!

Back when I lived in Chicago, I used to frequent Potbelly Sandwich Works. For those unfamiliar with Potbelly, it's a Chicago-based chain now opening shop in a growing number of cities. Unfortunately, Atlanta is not included in that list of cities, but I digress...
While I was always a big fan of Potbelly's chicken salad sammich, I mostly stopped in for their absolutely fabulous oreo malt. To this day, I often find myself jonesing for the malt. That craving has been particularly brutal the past two weeks, thanks to the 90-plus degree weather. By the way, if you live anywhere near a Potbelly, make sure to check it out. It's tasty and cheap and provides a quality alternative to many of the other subway chains.
So why am I telling you all of this? Because I think I may have finally found a substitute for my beloved oreo malt. I just saw a German Chocolate Shake recipe (you heard me - GERMAN CHOCOLATE!!) on the Internet and am itching to go home and try it out. If you're a fan of chocolate, milk, coconut, pecans and Splenda, you might want to bust out the blender for this one!

Hello, my name is Audrey...and I'm a chocoholic.

Hey, y'all. I apologize for the lapse between blog entries. I've been out of town for the past week - sort of a last-minute vacation - and haven't had any time to log on. But since I'm sure you have all been sitting on the edge of your seats, eagerly awaiting my next post, here goes...

I found this fabulous recipe today on the Hungry Girl Web site. Like many people do on vacation, I spent much of the recent trip eating and drinking in various restaurants and bars. When else can you go to breakfast, lunch and dinner all in one day without suffering major food guilt?

Sadly, I've discovered that even though I'm back to my normal routine again, I'm still craving heavy dinners and delectable desserts. Those salads, veggies and chicken meals look downright boring in comparison.
Here's a quick-hit cocktail recipe I'm hoping will help satisfy my newly-reawakened urge to mix chocolate and alcohol.

Chilly Chocolate Mudslide (approximately 130 calories, 1g fat)

Ingredients:
1 packet diet/sugar free 25 calorie hot cocoa
3 oz. hot water
2 oz. 8th Continent Light Vanilla Soy Milk
1/2 oz. Sugar Free Torani White Chocolate or Vanilla Syrup
1 teaspoon Hershey's Lite Chocolate Syrup
2 packets of Splenda
1 oz. vodka
5-7 ice cubes

Directions:
Dissolve hot cocoa, chocolate syrup and Splenda in hot water. Add light soy milk, vodka and Torani syrup. Pour into blender. Blend with ice on the highest speed for about 45 seconds. Pour, and top with a squirt of Fat Free Reddi-Wip!
